Liverpool and Manchester United are both considering a move for Aaron Ramsey in January, and the Welshman would prefer to stay in England if he leaves Arsenal.
The Evening Standard write that there are a number of clubs around Europe monitoring Ramsey’s contract situation. Italian clubs are particularly interested, with AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus monitoring the situation.
Unfortunately, Ramsey prefers to stay in England, with his wife soon to give birth to twins. As a result, Manchester United and Liverpool are instead emerging as front-runners for his signature. Standard Sport say there’s a ‘strong possibility’ they’ll make a move in January.
The report suggests Ramsey would cost around £25m, possibly even less.
That’s the same sort of figure that was being touted by the media for Sanchez last year. Eventually, the Chilean left on a swap deal instead. However, it’s likely Arsenal would be asking for roughly the same amount of money again, given the similarities between the two situations.
Reports last month suggested that Jurgen Klopp tried to bring the Welshman to Anfield in the summer window. At the time, Arsenal knocked the interest back. Now that Ramsey’s contract talks have taken a turn for the worse, it’s likely Liverpool will try again.
Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Ramsey goes all the way back to when he first signed for Arsenal. They got as far as announcing they’d agreed on a fee for the midfielder before he joined the Gunners instead.
If Ramsey really does leave for a rival, it would be a sour end to what should be a fondly-remembered decade with the Gunners.
A couple of cup final winners and over 50 goals from midfield should be the focus of our Ramsey recollections, but you can guarantee they won’t be if he pushes to move to a direct Premier League rival. It’s up to him and the Arsenal board now.
