Real Sociedad are targeting the signing of Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal following the departure of Alvaro Odriozola to Real Madrid, according to Spanish journalist Kike Marin.
The Gunners are also reluctant to let the 32-year-old leave the club although would be willing to depart with the player should he accept the move and their demands are met.
This week Sociedad were dealt a huge blow following the departure of 22-year-old defender Alvaro Odriozola, one of the club’s best players, to Real Madrid, meaning that the Basque Country club are now on the lookout for a replacement.
The La Liga club have identified Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal as his replacement and have made the defender one of their priority signings this summer.
These claims from Marin back-up the reports from AS’ who were also reporting earlier this week that Monreal was on Sociedad’s list of transfer targets.
The reports from the Spanish paper claim that contact has already been made between Sociedad and the player’s representatives.
Although, it is also understood that Monreal has no intention of leaving the North London club in the near future.
Sociedad are aware that a deal for the defender would be complicated, however, they are still convinced that a deal is possible, according to Cadena SER.
Monreal’s contract expires next summer which hands the Spanish club hope, with the possibility of the Gunners deciding to cash in now.
