North London club Arsenal has officially made contact with representatives of the possible signing of a new striker, according to reports.

Arsenal had earlier missed out on a deal for Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has continued in his search for a new goal scorer to add to his current squad which has already been dealth a blow by Danny Welbeck’s severe injury.

Spaniard Alvaro Morata has been identified as Arsenal’s main target after Real Madrid managed to buy back the striker from Serie A champions Juventus in a £23m deal last month.

The Gunners are one of the clubs who have approached Real Madrid about meeting their asking price of $74.8 million for Alvaro Morata, according to Spanish outlet AS.

Reports indicate Arsenal is set to pay Morata €9 million-a-year in salary which is a huge increase from the €4 million-a-year he is set to earn at Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old’s agent Juanma Lopez confirmed last month that top clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United had made requests about the availability of the player.

“He still has offers from top clubs in the Premier League,” Lopez told AS.
