Arsenal are set to announce the signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos after he completed his medicals ahead of a move to the club, according to the Daily Mail.
The Greek defender’s move which has been no secret for most of this summer had dragged on for nearly a month with reports claiming that a deal had been agreed since early last month.
The player’s father had given an interview last month in which he revealed that his son had turned down Manchester United in favour of a move to Arsenal. And Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc had confirmed it, stating that a deal was close.
Then BBC journalist David Ornstein revealed that a deal had been agreed but Arsenal and Dortmund were delaying the announcement until July when the new financial year begins, for tax purposes.
July is finally here and the deal is close to being officially announced after he flew in yesterday to complete his medicals.
Sokratis made 43 appearances for Dortmund last season, scoring three goals and is expected to add a lot of experience and strength to the Gunners defence as they begin life under new manager Unai Emery.
