Arsene Wenger says he has “opened the door” for Lucas Perez to leave Arsenal this summer, despite reports suggesting the Gunners won’t lower the demands to push through a deal.
Was the door ever closed at any point? It seems strange that it’s mentioned now, but Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Lucas Perez will be allowed to leave the club should the right offer come in.
The Spaniard is well-down the pecking order at Arsenal and has little chance of first-team football this season. Due to this, Wenger will not stand in his way if he finds a good club to move to.
“There’s a possibility [he could leave this month]. I opened the door for him because I have many strikers,” said Wenger, reports talkSPORT. “If he finds a good opportunity, I will help him.”
How much ‘help’ Wenger has been giving him is up for debate. Deportivo are the ones fighting the hardest to sign him and Lucas does want to go back to his hometown club, reports say. considering he lost his shirt number to Alexandre Lacazette in the summer, I don’t understand why the club don’t just accept less and get Lucas off the books.
However, Arsenal don’t appear to be doing much to help make that happen. Their asking price seems to be doing the opposite, if anything. Lucas’ agent, Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle, has been critical of Arsenal’s handling of the transfer and thinks the Gunners are asking for too much money.
