Arsenal have reportedly offered midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain an improved contract which would keep him at the Emirates Stadium until 2021.

According to the Daily Star, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been offered a four-year-deal worth £125k-per-week. The Gunners were believed to have had an offer of £100k-per-week previously rejected by the England international.

The Ox’s proposed new deal, however, will see him take home £542k-per-month and a whopping £6.5m-per-year. After his four-year deal comes to an end, the former Southampton midfielder could have earned himself around £26m.

It’s a lot of money but Arsene Wenger clearly feels it’s worth paying due to the versatility the Ox provides on the pitch, and his impressive attitude and work rate in games. Oxlade-Chamberlain has played a variety of roles for Arsenal without much fuss, I recall, and could be given a lucrative reward.

The Londoners are desperate to keen him at the club, with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool continually linked to his signature. But I think Arsenal could well tie down the midfielder if they put forward an offer that makes him feel like a valued member of the team.

Oxlade-Chamberlain made only 16 Premier League starts last season and has no idea where Wenger wants to continue playing him, having featured at fullback, wingback, midfield and on the wing. His contract with Arsenal is up this summer and losing him for free would be a big disappointment.
