Arsenal’s long chase of Nigerian wonderkid Samuel Chukwueze has failed, with the prodigy choosing to join Portuguese giants Porto instead.
It was reported that Arsenal had done almost everything right except putting pen to paper, with Arsene Wenger meeting Diamond Academy’s Chukwueze one-on-one at the Emirates in January, and the young prodigy was reported to have passed medical at Arsenal.
A reliable Nigerian football outlet AllNigerianSoccer.com, reported that Diamond Academy’s President, Martin Apugo, has made it clear that that the Nigerian under-17 international is heading to Porto amid Arsenal’s interest.
It is believed that a fee of £2.5 million pounds had been agreed with the Emirate giant, with £1.5 million pounds of that being paid up-front and two installments of £500,000 pounds to be paid, the first when he makes it into the first-team like Alex Iwobi and the second when he had earned international cap.
Chukwueze was earlier this year pictured with Wenger, along with teammate and new Arsenal recruit Kelechi Nwakali and former Arsenal player Kanu ahead of signing a contract. But it appears that has fallen through.
Apugo told All Nigerian Soccer, “Chukwueze is going to FC Porto not Monaco, Arsenal wanted Chukwueze, but the problem is that they could not agree with Diamond Academy.”
Now that a deal for Chukwueze is all over, Arsenal would to take comfort in the signing of Kelech Nwakali and not allow greedy football agent take advantage of the club.
