Wenger has made it no secret this summer that he is actively exploring the opportunity to add to his available striking power options. With Walcot’s inability to play as a lone striker and almost always firing blanks, Welbeck back on the treatment table after being ruled out for 9 months, leaving Giroud as the only out and out striking option available Wenger was hoping to bring in Lukaku to the Emirates.
Earlier reports suggested that Arsenal was in talks with the want-away striker who is disillusioned with life at Goodison Park. Lukaku is said to have been set to leave Everton considering the clubs inability to qualify for the Champions league. Arsenal was believed to have agreed to terms with Lukaku’s agent, but Everton is keen to hold on to their prized striker who is has scored 61 goals in 127 appearances since joining Everton from Chelsea.
This is a big blow to Wenger and Arsenal as a proposed move would have seen Lukaku fit into the Arsenal side considering his exposure to the physicality of the Premier League and his International experience with the Belgian side. Arsenal fans will be hoping that Wenger will be able to match Everton’s £55m valuation of Lukaku and land the converted striker.
Everton who are under no pressure to sell any player in other to bring in new faces to the side this summer. With a new investor who has handed new coach Ronald Koeman a huge transfer chest, the fortunes of Everton is looking better than ever and this might be the key factor to Lukaku’s change of heart.
Lukaku who is currently enjoying his vacation in New York after he and his Belgium teammates were eliminated from the Euros by Italy, will be returning to Goodison park to rejoin his Everton teammates.
