Martin Keown has singled out Alexandre Lacazette for special praise and believes Unai Emery should build his new-look attack around the former Lyon striker. Lacazette was signed last summer for a then club-reocrd £52million but his place in the team has been compromised by the subsequent arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Emery had struggled to incorporate his two leading forwards in the starting line-up until Sunday’s win over Cardiff, during which both players opened their goalscoring accounts for the season. Lacazette has started the three previous games on the bench but emphatically stated his case for regular inclusion with a man-of-the-match display and Keown has been thoroughly impressed with his attitude as much his performances on the pitch.
‘I think special mention has to go to Alexandre Lacazette’ he told the Daily Mail. ‘How patient has that man been? His attitude has been impeccable. ‘He failed to make the French squad for the World Cup then watched from afar as they went on to lift the trophy in Russia. ‘Emery used him as a substitute in his first three Premier League matches, then he finally gets to start against Cardiff. So what he do? He goes and scores the winner. ‘Lacazette now has to play and be the person they build around. Full credit to him.’
