According to reports in the Sun, Arsenal could be making a move for Manchester City’s right back Micah Richards in the summer. the Englishman has just a year left on his current contract and with chances over a new deal looking increasingly remote, City might just be ready to cash in on him in the summer. The reports touted that a bid of 8million Pounds could see him leave the Etihad.
Richards has seen first team football hard to come by with Zabaleta preferred by Pellegrini. Richards would be a good signing for Arsenal owing to his versatility as he can play both the right back and centre-back positions making him an invaluable addition if Arsenal are able to snap him up in the summer. with the futures of Sagna and Vermaelen looking uncertain, Richards could help make up for their exits.
Richards is already at home in the Premier League and should settle seamlessly at the Emirates unlike any foreign import. The only reservation I have about him is his recurring injuries. Hopefully, he has already overcome them.
Getting Richards won’t be a stroll in the park for the Gunners as the English defender isn’t short of suitors. According to reports, he is wanted by Liverpool and Galatasaray besides the Gunners that are also interested.
It is also unknown if Pellegrini would be willing to sell him to Arsenal that are obviously title rivals. The City’s manager might just prefer to sell him abroad to Galatasaray.
Arsenal still have an edge in the race for Richards because the English defender is a huge fan of the Gunners since he was young. Also, the lure of Champions League football will also swing the pendulum in Arsenal’s direction. Most English players prefer playing in the Premier League and if he is torn between a move to Arsenal and Liverpool, he is most likely going to opt for the Emirates.
