If reports from the Spanish media are anything to go by, Chelsea and former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has stolen the match on Arsenal in the pursuit of Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira. The reports claim Chelsea were interested in signing the German midfielder in the last window but could not make a move for the player as they could not sell neither of Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel.
The blues are currently short in the defensive midfield department of their team as they haven’t selected Michael Essien for for their champions league group with only Mikel who is regarded unreliable as the only recognized central defensive midfielder.
As a result of the shortage in the CDM role, Mourinho is on the look out for a new defensive midfielder. It is now been reported that Mourinho has decided to move for Khedira in January regardless of whether he is able to offload Essien or Mikel as he do not want to risk losing him to Arsenal. Mourinho is believed to have started talking to the player in order to convince him to choose Chelsea ahead of Arsenal.
It remains to be seen if Mourinho will succeed in persuading the player to join Chelsea or if Khedira will follow Ozil to Arsenal.
