Arsenal are still in pole position to sign Leicester City forward Jamie Vardy after the England International requested additional time to decide on his future.
Vardy,29, who ended last season scoring 24 goals in the Premier League during Leicester City’s surprise title winning campaign. Vardy has been attracting lot of suitors after his impressive season with Leicester and the Gunners were the first to make a move for the England international following his exploits during the season.
Vardy look to be unsure about his next destination, however, the striker is reluctant to leave the team that has believed so much in him, bringing him from the England lower tiers few years ago.
Not minding the uncertainty surrounding his future, online sportsbook MyBookie are still backing the striker to join Arsenal after the European championship.
It’s believed that Vardy would bring a much-needed cutting edge to the Arsenal team who has recently suffered from the inconsistencies and inefficiencies of French International Olivier Giroud as their only front man.
Some still question Vardy’s ability to slot in properly within an Arsenal system. Some are of the opinion that Vardy would struggle to thrive in a non- counter attacking team, but many british commentators back Vardy’s talent to adapt to most systems if needed, this was recently demonstrated by his efficiency for England against Wales.
Jamie Vardy is an upgrade on Olivier Giroud but question of if he can play at the elite European stage like Uefa champion’s league has been squashed, looking at his performance against Wales in the European Championship.
Should Vardy eventually sign, it will be interesting to see how the Arsenal boss conducts his transfer business for the remainder of the window.
