Nigerian football fans were so excited when news filtered in that Former U-17 midfielder Kelechi Nwakali will soon sign a new contract with Premier League giants Arsenal .
Nwakali was the star of the Chile FIFA U-17 World Cup which Nigeria ended up winning. The player has confirmed that he will travel with the Gunners for pre-season next month after sorting out his contract with the club.
“I will travel for pre-season next month,” he said concerning the contract. The player though has turned 18 is unlikely to get straight into the first team of Arsenal as it might be too early for that. It is more likely that he will bid his time with the reserves and learn his trade before being sent on loan to a small profile team to gain first team experience and grow better as person. This is the same story with the likes of Abou Diaby, Cesc Fabregas and In recent times both Francis Coquelin and Joel Campbell who were signed as starlets but ended up biding their time and given the chance they duly deserve.
The midfielder will have to be patient and continue to allow his football do the talking. Arsene Wenger is a manager who trusts so much in youth players and as such he is rest assured that he will be gain time if he deserves it.
Nwakali is surely a player for the future and must consider himself lucky to have been signed by not just a high profile club but a manager who gives youths the chance when necessary.
