Arsenal are riding high and blowing everybody away in their wake but one player is pretending to be unimpressed. Tottenham’s Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen has questioned Arsenal’s ability to stay on in the title race despite the Gunners currently leading the Premier League by five clear points.
“It’s too early to call Arsenal the title contender,”
“The only thing you can say is that they’re stronger than last season. They have a stronger squad, can play different systems and have a great bunch of creativity in their midfield. Although I expect still a lot from Manchester City.”
I wonder when doubters and skeptics will come to accept that Arsenal are in the title race with a shout. Despite having key members of the squad out due to injuries, we are still flying high in the league. What will then happen when the likes of Walcott, Podolski and Chamberlain return? We will be fearsome.
Jan said Arsenal aren’t title contenders, so what are we, top 4 hopefuls? Rather than worry his head sick over us, he should concern himself with how to handle top teams when they play them. We have played them and Liverpool and took maximum 6 points, they have played us and Chelsea and took paltry 1 point. What then is their fate when they play City, Manchester United and Liverpool? Before Tottenham can be spoken of in the same breath as Arsenal this season, they have a long way to go. That is enough subject of contemplation for Vertonghen and company, not Arsenal.
