Ricardo Rodriguez reportedly wants to stay at AC Milan after Arsenal lodged a late transfer bid for the defender. Unai Emery is desperate for cover at left-back after Sead Kolasinac was ruled out for ten weeks with a knee injury. With Nacho Monreal also sidelined, it means 20-year-old Ainsley Maitland-Niles is in line to start against Manchester City in Arsenal’s Premier League opener.
Milan rejected an offer for Rodriguez from Arsenal this week and Sky Sports Italy claim the defender wants to remain in Italy. Paris Saint-Germain also showed interest in Rodriguez, but the Swiss is eager to give Milan another chance to move forward this season. The Serie A side suffered a disappointing campaign last season, but Rodriguez stood out as one of the best players in the starting eleven.
Emery may now turn his attention to other targets, but the Gunners face a race against time to get a deal over the line. The English transfer window slams shut on Thursday, the day before the 2018/19 league season begins at Old Trafford.
Arsenal welcome defending champions City to the Emirates on Sunday in what will be Emery’s first competitive game in charge. Emery has brought in several new faces this summer including Matteo Guendouzi, Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Lucas Torreira.
