ARSENAL’s defence is always a worry – even when they have everyone fit and available for selection.
That is according to ex-Arsenal and Celtic striker and Sky Sports pundit Charlie Nicholas.
Unai Emery has only one recognised centre-back available for Sunday’s trip to Southampton.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Shkodran Mustafi will both miss the game due to suspension
Mustafi is also struggling with a hamstring injury and is a doubt for the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham next Wednesday.
Rob Holding will miss the rest of the campaign after suffering a long-term knee injury, with Konstantinos Mavropanos also yet to feature this season due to a groin problem.
That leaves Laurent Koscielny as the only available central defender – a player who has only played once since rupturing his Achilles back in May.
Nicholas was asked if he was worried about the Arsenal defence for the trip to Southamptonwith Sokratis and Mustafi unavailable.
But he admitted he is never comfortable even when the duo are in the team.
“I’m worried every week when they’re fit and not suspended when you see some of their antics defensively,” Nicholas said.
“It is the reality of where Arsenal are.
“Goodness me it’s good to get Koscielny back.
“He wasn’t the same player before the injury but just to come back and be under a new manager and a new defensive structure.”
