Arsenal target, Swansea and Wales Captain Ashley Williams has finally spoken about his desires to play in the champions league. Arsenal have been on the trail of the experience EPL campaign since last January with Daily mail reporting yesterday that Swansea had turned down a bid for the big defender.
Wenger sees the centre back as the ideal cover/competition for Thomas Vermaelen who is out injured for the next 3 months. Although Swansea have said numerous times that their captain is not up for sale, Arsenal are of the opinion that they have a chance of getting the defender.
Williams himself has asserted that he will like to move to a club playing in the champions league.
“if I sat here and said I didn’t want to play in the Champions League, that’d be a lie”. “As professionals, like you guys, you want to see how far you can go in your career and competing for titles is where everyone wants to be.”
However, he won’t be forcing a move away from Swansea as that will be disrespectful to both the club and his current team mates.
“But at the same time, I’d never disrespect a team I play for and say ‘that’s it, I’m desperate to leave’ just after a story in the paper. I’d never do that or think that”.
With just 16 days to go before the window slams shut, only time will tell whether Williams will be playing for Arsenal next season or continue to captain Swansea as they campaign in Europe via the Europa Legau next season.
