Manchester City winger Jadon Sancho is willing to turn down a new contract worth £4.7m in order to join Arsenal and pursue his ambitions of playing first team football, according to the Sun.
City have put a £30,000 a week, three year deal on the table for the 17 year old but the player fears he will not get a chance to shine at the Etihad stadium. The midfielder joined from Watford two years ago, but it is believed he is keen on Arsenal as he sees greater opportunities of playing under manager Arsene Wenger, who is known for mentoring young players.
Speaking to the Sun, an unnamed City source says Sancho is not interested in the financial rewards:
“His family think he might get a quicker path to first-team action at either Arsenal or Spurs. One of his heroes is ironically Alexis Sanchez. It’s proving difficult to get him to sign his first professional contract here. He is a top player, one of, if not the best in the youth system. It’s not about the money for him at all.”
Arsenal could snap up Sancho next summer, with compensation having to be agreed with City for the transfer to happen. Tottenham and two German clubs; Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig, are also interested in the winger but it looks like that the Gunners currently have the upper hand on their rivals.
Sancho featured for City in the UEFA Youth League, the FA Youth Cup, the Under 18 Premier League and Premier League 2 last season, scoring an impressive 20 goals from 33 games in all competitions.
