If there is one player Arsenal fans keenly want to see their club sign this summer, that player is Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Armenian who was voted Bundesliga player of the year is still yet to sign an extension to his deal with Dortmund and after initially saying they won’t sell him even if he doesn’t sign an extension, Kicker, one of the most reliable German media houses, are reporting Dortmund have had a change of mind and will consider offers for the player.
Arsenal’s deal maker Dick Law is said to have flown to Germany over the weekend to hold talks with Dortmund. The outcome of the discussion we do not know yet but judging by a quote attributed to the player by UEFA.com, Arsenal fans can have hope of seeing the player who scored 19 times and created 24 assists last season in 43 games.
The Armenian was quoted by UEFA.com in 2009 to have said; “My favourite team is Arsenal,” said the attack-minded midfielder, who has played ten games for Armenia, scoring once. “I like their attacking play and fast style. Moreover, Arsène Wenger puts faith in young players while demanding results at the same time. I like that and want to play there one day.”
Judging by this quote, it is not a surprise that every media outlet in both England and Germany are reporting the player has set his mind on moving to Arsenal and should Arsenal be willing to pay Dortmund’s asking price, expected to be 30 million, he will be dorning Arsenal’s red and white shirt next season.
