Last week German giants Dortmund confirmed on their official Twitter account that centre-back Neven Subotic was in talks over a proposed transfer and Tuchel said after Saturday’s friendly with Wuppertaler SV: “Signs are pointing to his departure. I don’t actually expect him back here.”
Subotic who has spent eight years in Germany, making 258 appearances, winning two Bundesliga titles and a Champions League final in 2013 at Dortmund, has decided to call it time, announcing on social media he was leaving the club for a fresh challenge.
The 27-year-old Serbian defender had fallen down the pecking order since Thomas Tuchel took charge last summer. He suffered from thrombosis in his arm last year in a soured season which he managed to make 11 appearances. Dortmund had given Subotic their blessings to speak with other clubs, in other to secure a transfer.
Arsene Wenger who has his mind set on improving Arsenal’s defence this summer has had an official bid of £12m accepted by Dortmund for the 6ft2 defender. Wenger will be hoping the arrival of Subotic will help stop the frequent leak in Arsenal’s weak defence
Arsenal fans will be relishing welcoming Subotic to the Emirates who is expected to fly in on Wednesday to have his medicals.
