If the words of Gabon national coach, Jorge Costa, are anything to go by, then it seems the likely destination of Borussia Dortmund star Aubameyang has been revealed. The 26-year-old striker has been mentioned to be set to join clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona, and Real Madrid all vying for his signature.
Speculations about whether he will stay at Borussia Dortmund or whether he will leave has been recurrent in the past few seasons. However, it seems the striker has already made up his mind about taking up a fresh challenge. Aubameyang, who netted 39 times in 46 appearances for Dortmund last season, and is valued at around £70 million looks set to leave the Signal Iduna Park this summer after Costa mentioned that the striker has asked for his permission to miss the country’s friendly matches against Mauritania and Ivory Coast because he is in the midst of a transfer.
According to the coach:
“Aubameyang has asked not to be selected [for the national team] because he is changing clubs,” Costa told RFI (via Goal) during an interview.
Despite his goal-scoring ability, he is used to the counter-attacking style of play which means it may take longet to adapt if he noves to the Emirates.
Gunners’ manager Arsene Wenger has made it no secret that he wants to bring a new forward to the Emirates Stadium this summer. Thus he has been linked with a long list of players, including Juventus striker Alvaro Morata who is topping his wish list.
Even though it is still uncertain who would end up leading Arsenal’s frontline next season, Aubameyang’s knack for scoring goals is the piece that has been missing in our puzzle at Arsenal since the days of RVP.
Arsenal desperately needs an established striker in the team especially with Danny Welbeck’s injury – which will keep him out of action for nine months- and Olivier Giroud’s inconsistency.
If Aubameyang could rake in 39 goals for Borussia Dortmund, then he’s undeniably good for a striker and would be a great addition to the Gunners set up, regardless of how long it will take him to gel with the team.
It’ll be a beauty to see Aubameyang lead our strike force next season.
