SOKRATIS PAPASTATHOPOULOS has revealed he spoke with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan before joining Arsenal.
The Gunners today announced the defender has joined Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund.
Papastathopoulos, 30, has penned a long-term contract after his £16m move to the Emirates.
And the centre-back, who played alongside Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan during his time at Dortmund, says the Arsenal pair persuaded him to head to north London.
When asked about the Arsenal duo, he told the club’s official website: “I spoke [to them] a lot times.
“They said to me the best things about this club, that it is one big family and of course they also called me not every day but a lot of times telling me to come here.”
Papastathopoulos follows Stephen Lichtenstein and Bernd Leno to the Emirates, with the defender becoming Unai Emery’s third summer signing.
Emery has been vocal on Arsenal’s transfer plans, with the 46-year-old revealing he hopes to develop the current squad.
“I believe we can grow with the players we have,” he said
The objective is to work hard together and with these talented players.
“It’s very important for the club, after two years outside the Champions League, to work to be the best team in the Premier League and also in the world.”
