Arsenal’s hope of signing Armenian attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan might have suffered a set back after it was revealed by his agent Raiola Mino that he favours a move to Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United. Raiola had this to say about the player : “He wants to go to Manchester United and we are still trying to resolve the situation.”
Raiola is also the agent of Zlatan Ibrahimovic who is a free agent and has been reported to be close to a deal to Manchester United this summer. What this entails is that Raiola is trying to make it possible for his two clients to sign for the same club which is Manchester United, using his ties, influence and knowledge of the game to realise. Raiola who is seen as seen as European football’s super agent along with Portuguese Jorge Mendes became Mkhitaryan’s agent in 2013.
The player has refused to sign a contract extension at Dortmund with his current contract having just 12 months to run. The Armenian was signed from Sharktar Donetsk in 2013 and although it took him time to settle, he has become the best in his position in the Bundesliga scoring 23 goals and providing 32 assists in 52 games in all competitions for Dortmund last season.
Arsenal have long been linked with the player but it has also been reported that Dortmund are not ready to let him leave for the £25 million Arsenal value him at. Dortmund it seems want to force him to play out the last year of his contract and then leave next season as a free agent.
It is highly unlikely Arsenal will sign the Armenian as the North London club will not be able to offer him the kind of financial package that Manchester United would. Arsenal have a wage structure which Arsene Wenger strictly adheres to, while Manchester United under Mourinho would easily grant him.
Wherever Mkhitaryan ends up next season, it surely will be interesting to know how the deal was wrapped up.
