Laurent Koscielny has given Arsene Wenger something to think about as he threatens to quit the club unless they show some ambition. Arsenal are without a trophy got eight seasons and the defender wants to see things changing to try and end that torrid run.
The French defender was the star performer in a more solid looking defence for Arsenal last season and although he is happy at the Emirates, he has states he may be forced to leave the club unless ambitions are raised at the club. Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for the France international with reports suggesting the club have made a £15 million bid for him.
The German club completed a memorable treble of the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Pokal. The ambition showed by the Bavarians is what Koscielny wants to see at the Gunners and should that not happen that a move away may materalise.
Arsene Wenger has said the days of selling the club’s top talent is over with Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Robin Van Persie and Alex Song all leaving the club in the past two summers and money must be spent for Koscielny to remain off that list.
The defender admitted his desire to win trophies and titles and if Arsenal could not offer him that, then a move elsewhere would be his only option. Koscielny could be vital for Arsenal to break their awful trophyless run and so keeping him at the Emirates will be one of Wenger’s key moves this summer.
Robin Van Persie was happy with life at Arsenal a year ago but a different view for the club’s future saw the striker leave and a similar situation has now appeared with Koscielny.
The club now have the finances to bring in some of football’s top talent and after eight years without a trophy and a seriously underwhelming season with the club narrowly piping Spurs to fourth place, Wenger’s squad needs heavy investment.
The early signs are good with the club being linked with stars like Stevan Jovetic, Wayne Rooney and Cesc Fabregas while the club’s current stars in Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla remain happy at the club. Koscielny himself was named second in Arsenal’s Player of the Season and can regard himself as one of the clubs best players. With some money invested in improving the squad and challenging for honours then Laurent and co. will be happy to stay at the Emirates for years to come otherwise Bayern Munich, Barcelona and other European greats will continue to steal away Arsenal’s leading men.
