When two weeks ago news broke that Arsenal are going to be activating the release clause of Wolfsburg’s Ricardo Rodriguez, many thought it was just one of those media reports that fly around by this time of the yea. However, various quotes from the player and different wolfsburg officials have seen confirmed the reports linking the Switzerland star to Arsenal are probably true.
Rodriguez has a release clause of €25 million in his contract which is active from June 1 to June 30. The player himself has now come out to say he is excited at the prospect of teaming up with his national team mate Granit Xhaka at Arsenal.
“I don’t know where I’ll be going, everything’s still open,” he said. “It’s also not impossible to continue at Wolfsburg, even though it might be unrealistic right now.”
He went on to confirm there are clubs in England and in Spain interested in his services; He added:“There are many big clubs. The English clubs have a lot of money, Spain is a great league.”
With only Arsenal and Real Madrid linked with his signing so far and Madrid seemingly more interested in signing David Alaba from Bayern Munich, it is safe to assume the player will be playing in Arsenal colours by the time the transfer window closes.
Only recently VFB Wolfsburg’s sporting Director Klaus Allofs confirmed the Bundesliga clubside have no power to keep the player obviously because he has a release. He went further to state that the player has made it clear he wants to leave.
Allofs told kicker: “This is no news to us. That’s the agreement we struck with Ricardo. When we last talked his plan was clear. He wanted to leave us.
“A difficult season is behind us. We only need players with a clear mind. If the commitment to Wolfsburg’s not there, it’s better to part ways”
