This would come as good news to football fans in Nigeria, who are currently mourning the demise of two former national team coaches; Kelechi Nwakali has agreed a five-year contract with Arsenal,according to the president of Nwakali’s current club, the Diamond Football Academy Martin Apugo.
Nwakali, 18, has been linked with a move to Arsenal since the start of the year and rumours in March indicated that a deal was done.
The Gunners are yet to officially confirm the transfer, but The Sun reported this week that the £3m transfer should be completed soon.
Diamond Football Academy president Martin Apugo told allnigeriasoccer.com,
“Kelechi Nwakali was with Arsenal but came back from London to join the national team,”.
“He will travel this month to Arsenal, he is still in the Flying Eagles camp.
“He has agreed a five-year contract, he is a player of Arsenal.”
Nwakali attracted interest from top premier league clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City and West Ham.
The wonderkid skippered Nigeria to Under-17 World Cup glory last year, he scored a free-kick for Nigeria’s Under-20s in a 2-1 win over Burundi on Saturday in an African Cup of Nations qualifier.
His Nigeria Under-17 team-mate Samuel Chukwueze has also been linked with a move to Arsenal.
This deal was initially announced by Nwakali’s agent, but now it has been confirmed by the president of his Academy. Seem the deal is signed, sealed and set to be delivered.
