After having completed the signing of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, Arsenal have triggered the release clause of Jamie Vardy and while we all wait for the Englishman to make up his mind, Arsenal have moved onto their next target. According to highly reliable Spanish media out let Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are ready to make a big money move for Lyon’s Samuel Umtiti.
Umtiti has also been linked with a move to Barca but despite the interest from the La Liga Champions, Arsene Wenger is said not to be ready to give up on signing the French national team defender. Wenger is said to be ready to take advantage of Lyon’s well publicised financial troubles to sign the player on the cheap.
Lyon are been forced to sell couple of their players to balance the books and avoid been thrown out of the Champions League. Umtiti should he join Arsenal, will be expected to form a partnership with his fellow Frenchman Laurent Koscienly in the centre of Arsenal’s defender.
With Per Mertesacker ageing and Gabriel Paulista and Calum Chambers looking like they are both not ready for regular first team football, 22-year-old Umtiti will be a reliable partner to Koscienly.
