ARSENAL and Liverpool are reportedly preparing moves to sign Gremio striker Luan

Luan was linked with a move to Liverpool earlier in the year after turning down the chance to sign a new deal at the Brazilian club.

The 24-year-old’s current contract ends in 2018 and player was said to be available for around £26million.

Luan looked set to join Spartak Moscow after the Russian side made a £18m offer.

But the deal has now collapsed and Brazilian outlet Zero Hora say Arsenal and Liverpool are ready to move for the striker.

Both Premier League clubs are actively looking to make signings in the final weeks of the transfer window.

But Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has admitted the players need to leave before they strengthen their squad.

He said: “The number (in the squad) is too high.

“We will let some players go.

“Too much competition for places is detrimental, but not enough competition for places is detrimental as well.”

Luan has made one appearance for the Brazilian national team and is expected to be called up for Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Colombia later this month.
