Arsenal have reportedly decided to renew their interest in William Carvalho, making the Sporting Lisbon star their top transfer target as they look to strengthen in midfield.
The Portugal international has been linked with the Gunners and other Premier League clubs in the past, and seems to be back on the agenda this summer.
Arsenal look short of quality in the middle of the park as Jack Wilshere looks set to move on amid rumours of interest from Crystal Palace and Sampdoria.
Elsewhere, players like Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka and Francis Coquelin didn’t look too convincing for most of last season, making Arsenal’s lack of apparent interest in a midfielder up to now all the more surprising.
However, it seems Arsene Wenger does see that as an area of priority and Record claim he’s set to step up his interest in Carvalho.
The 25-year-old has shone in his time with Sporting and for the Portuguese national team, and would likely cost around £27million to move in this transfer window.
Other clubs such as Newcastle United are also thought to be interested in the player, though his preference is to join Arsenal, with Thierry Henry supposedly one of his big idols.
Arsenal have done some good business so far this summer by bringing in Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac, and a top class addition in midfield would tick all the boxes for the club’s needs ahead of the new season.
