Newcastle United have the advantage in the race for Miguel Almiron, according to his father, despite links to Arsenal in recent months.
Ruben Almiron, Miguel’s father, spoke to the media in South America this week, claiming: “He (Miguel Almiron) will definitely go to England, what’s left to be decided is to what club, but Newcastle is the one with the advantage.”
This is further to quotes from Atlanta United president Darren Eales, where he outlined the price Arsenal and Newcastle would have to pay to sign his player.
The Almiron saga has been a bit back and forth so far.
Fox Sports announced last month that Arsenal had agreed on an £11.5m deal to sign the midfielder from the MLS.
That was followed up by a clarification from his agent that hinted at contact but said nothing was formal.
Since then, however, the comments of the 24-year-old’s agent have fallen by the wayside.
The story of Almiron’s signing dominated the headlines for a while anyway, despite it being reported that the original comments from Darren Eales, were not true.
