Everton are preparing for life without Marouane Fellaini as Roberto Martinez is considering a bid for Paris Saint Germain midfielder Clement Chantome. The 25-year old is a PSG academy graduate but has grown increasingly frustrated since the club was taken over.
The clubs new found wealth has seen his role in the team weakened with other midfielders Javier Pastore, Marco Veratti and Lucas Moura preferred. Everton have watched Chantome a few times and are now ready to offer him a deal.
A bid of around £8 million would be enough to secure a deal but will only happen should Fellaini leave for Arsenal. The Gunners have been eyeing up a deal for the Belgian since last month but have so far refused to meet his £24 million release clause. Wenger’s current troubles in the market combined with his newly gained wealth could see him stump up the money which would leave Everton with a massive gap to fill in their midfield.
The club have been scouting in case this happens and have identified Chantome as a replacement, and at a much lower price than Arsenal’s purchase of Fellaini. The midfielder has opened up the possibility of a move away from PSG.
“After last season, I feel that I have experienced what I wanted to with the club.”
“It has become easier to make a decision. I want to play more and play in big matches. I want to experience something else. PSG is not my whole life.”
It’s clear that Chantome has come frustrated from not playing enough last season and being snubbed in the important games, such as the Champions League clashes with Barcelona. His comments have not only alerted Everton but Fulham, Lyon and Chelsea too.
