Whether Unai Emery will play Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang together is a question that many Arsenal fans have asked in recent weeks.

Emery opted not to on the opening weekend of the Premier League season against Manchester City, with Lacazette left on the bench and Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan supporting Aubameyang.

Lacazette was eventually introduced in the second half and his introduction coincided with a good spell for the Gunners, although they still couldn’t find a way back into the game.

Ahead of the Gunners’ clash against Chelsea on Saturday, the subject of the club’s two star strikers making the starting XI at Stamford Bridge was discussed at length.

And Emery has now spoken out on the possibility, insisting he will have no issue playing both – should he feel it is the right thing to do.

“The possibility to play Aubameyang and Lacazette is okay because we tried that in pre-season and also last year they played together,” said Arsenal’s head coach.

“It is the performance that says to us how we can play. We tried in pre-season and we try n training to play each of the conditions for every player.

“Each match if different, it is a different possibility. Against Manchester City, the last 25, 30 minutes they played together.

“For me it is about finding a good balance for all that we want in attacking and defensive moments.”

The fact that can choose to leave a player of Lacazette’s calibre on the bench shows the quality Emery has at his disposal at the Emirates.

There are plenty of other members of his squad that he needs to be able to give minutes to – and the Spaniard admits it will be a much easier situation to manage once the Europa League and Carabao Cup games begin.

He said: “I want to give them the chances in each match and maybe we need a lot of matches for every player.“In September we will start playing Sunday and Thursday. We are going to play more matches and I think every player will get chances to show us his performance for the team.”
