Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Antero Henrique says Adrien Rabiot has refused their contract offers so he can leave on a free, and he’ll be benched indefinitely as a result.
Speaking to Yahoo Sport, Henrique admitted that PSG have no plans to reopen talks to extend Rabiot’s contract, as it stands.
“At this point, no,” Henrique said.
“It was a decision made by the club following a meeting I had with the player. The player informed me that he would not sign a contract and that he wanted to leave the club for free at the end of the season, i.e. at the end of his contract.
“For the player, this will have a very clear consequence: he will remain on the bench for an indefinite period.”
Henrique went on to talk about how negotiations seemed to be going well a few months ago, and they appeared to have found some common ground with a number of playing conditions.
At the time, it seemed Rabiot would extend for years to come, but now the discussions have stopped entirely. As a result, the sporting director feels let down by the player.
“It seems that the player and his representative have misled us for several months,” Henrique continued.
“I must add that this situation is disrespectful for both the club and the fans. Especially from a player who has played under our colours from the training centre to the first team. A player who has always received the full support of the club.”
