Emile Smith Rowe has revealed he turned down the advances of Barcelona when he was aged 16 as he felt that his future belonged with Arsenal. The 18-year-old midfielder made his first-team debut for Arsenal in their 4-2 win over Vorskla Poltava back in September and has not looked back under the guidance of Unai Emery. Smith Rowe has since scored three goals in five games for the Gunners and the youngster’s meteoric rise means he’s pushing for his first start in the Premier League. The England Under-19 international admits he’s living out a dream this season as he plays alongside stars such as Mesut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

‘I’ve said the word too much, I think, but it’s surreal,’ Smith Rowe told Sky Sports.  ‘I’m just sitting there thinking, ‘What is going on?’ I look up to these players so much. To get a chance to be in the same dressing room as them – let alone on the same pitch – is unbelievable. I still feel like I’m in a dream.’

Smith Rowe is desperate to repay the faith Emery has shown in him this campaign. ‘I was shocked that I even went away with the first-team in pre-season, so to get the chances that the manager has given me has just been great,’ he added. ‘It’s a bit surreal to think about the players he has worked with. Now he’s there giving me advice. I’m grateful for what he has done for me. ‘All I can do is just play really well for him and show him how good I am.’
