Arsenal have confirmed that teenage midfielder Dan Crowley has been sold to Dutch outfit Willem II.

The Gunners announced on their official website on Monday that the 19-year-old playmaker had penned a permanent deal with the Eredivise side, after spending the second half of last season in the Netherlands with Go Ahead Eagles.

Crowley leaves the Emirates having failed to earn a single appearance for Arsene Wenger’s senior squad after quitting Aston Villa in 2014.

The four-times England Under-19 international was touted as the ‘new Jack Wilshere’ following his arrival from Villa, but the fact that he has been flogged to Willem II suggests that he will never live up to that comparison.

He had been shipped out on three loan spells in the last three years, with Barnsley and Oxford United welcoming the teenager as well as Go Ahead, where he scored two goals in 16 appearances across all competitions last term.

Crowley is a very attack-minded midfielder, who can play in a vast array of positions in the middle of the park and can also feature as a striker.

Arsenal haven’t been the busiest of Premier League clubs in the transfer market so far, but their two captures of Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac are surely set to light up the Emirates next season in Wenger’s side.
