Arsenal are closing in on the official unveiling of Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira.
Unai Emery has already welcomed three players into his squad this summer. Stephan Lichtsteiner was the first to arrive on a free deal from Juventus. Bernd Leno followed from Bayer Leverkusen before Sokratis Papastathopoulos was announced at the start of July.
Fans of the Gunners have been waiting for official confirmation on Torreira for weeks with officials at his current club, Sampdoria, passing some surprisingly candid comments in local press interviews.
Now the Serie A side has taken a further step forward by removing their midfielder from their official website as spotted by eagle-eyed Twitter user @MrArsenicTM.
Torreira was due to undergo a medical with Arsenal along with FC Lorient youngster Matteo Guendouzi and both players are expected to be confirmed as players for the Gunners in the coming hours.
In June, Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero let slip that the player was already leaving the club prior to the details of his move coming to light.
“Sampdoria do not sell unless there are excellent offers,” he said. “We do not look for buyers. We have natural talents whose values increase exponentially.
“Torreira has left for €30million. I bought him from Pescara when no one believed. We bet and we won, paying just €30million. The money that comes in is used to keep the club going.”
