While Arsenal’s move for Lucas Torreira has been dominating the headlines, the club are also on the verge of landing one of the most highly-rated young talents in England.

Sam Greenwood, the 16-year-old striker, has travelled down to London to sign a scholarship deal with the Gunners ahead of being handed a professional contract on his 17th birthday in January.

The forward has been chased by Manchester United and Liverpool in the past few months having decided to run down his contract with Sunderland, but has opted to join Arsenal.

Greenwood uploaded a picture on an Instagram story on Monday showing that he was at London Colney ahead of completing his switch to the north London club.

The teenager has been prolific at Under-16s level for Sunderland and stepped up well at times to the U18s last season, scoring six goals and contributing the same number of assists.

He has represented England at U16s level and will link up with Kwame Ampadu’s U18s squad at Arsenal.
