France manager Didier Deschamps has been discussing his reasoning behind the recent exclusion of Alexandre Lacazette from the national squad.

The Arsenal striker is currently in a rich vein of form and appeared to be in contention for France’s upcoming fixtures, with the international break now underway.

However, Deschamps opted to overlook Lacazette despite his impressive displays in recent times.

Deschamps, who led France to World Cup glory in the summer, was quizzed on Lacazette’s omission following the announcement of his squad and explained his decision.

As quoted by GFFN, the experienced manager spoke of his desire to achieve balance in the France squad, whilst urging Lacazette to continue pushing for his place on the international stage.

There is competition for each position. When the players who were at the World Cup are performing well… It is not a question of the type of player, but of position.

I need balance in the squad and he is a central attacker. He must continue.

The former Lyon striker has established himself as a key man for Gunners boss Unai Emery.

At the weekend, Lacazette was in fine form and found the net on two occasions as Arsenal came away from Craven Cottage with a comprehensive 5-1 win against Fulham.
