Arsenal will meet with Barcelona on Monday to further discuss Denis Suarez moving to the Emirates this month, reports say. Suarez has been heavily linked with a transfer switch to Arsenal this month and the Gunners have been locked in talks with Barcelona for several weeks. The midfielder is on the peripheral at Barcelona and is desperate to play more.

Gazzetta dello Sport claim talks will continue this week as Arsenal attempt to get the deal over the line. Suarez wants to move to England and is eager to link up with former Sevilla boss, Unai Emery, at Arsenal. Emery is keen for a reunion with his former player and Arsenal are targeting a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the season.

Arsenal do not have the transfer funds to meet Barcelona’s £20million asking price this month, but are open to committing to a permanent deal in the summer. Barcelona want to offload Suarez and would prefer to finalise his exit this month, rather than agree to a loan deal. But reports in Spain claim Suarez is determined to join Arsenal and has been promised by Barcelona chief Josep Maria Bartomeu he will get his wish.

Arsenal lack spending money this month and are looking at loan deals to add some quality to a squad that has been depleted by injuries. Emery has told the club he needs reinforcements as Arsenal’s woes worsened on Saturday after suffering defeat to West Ham. ‘We need to be competitive home and away, where we are not taking the result like we want,’ Emery said after the loss.

‘If we can be better over the 90 minutes and competitive with quality, then we can do [it], but all the things were against us today. ‘We need to continue working, taking confidence. We have the players to continue our way, the club is working [on new signings], but I am happy with the players and we need everybody also to continue after this bad result.’
