Arsenal are hoping to extend the contract of Marcus McGuane, fending off interest from Manchester United and Juventus in the process, according to latest reports.

The 18-year-old midfielder is out of contract in the summer, but could be in line for a new deal following his Arsenal début. That’s according to TMW, who claim that both Manchester United and Juventus are monitoring the situation.

McGuane, an England u19 international of Irish descent, rose through the age groups at Arsenal. A regular for the u18s and u23s, he was given his first-team début in the 4-2 win over BATE Borisov in the Europa League.

He came on as a late substitute for Reiss Nelson and filled in as right wing-back while Arsenal looked to protect their lead. The defensive midfielder can also fill in at centre-back if needs be.

Arsene Wenger has been keen to use his youth players in the Europa League and Carabao Cup this season. Along with McGuane, Reiss Nelson, Joe Willock and Josh Dasilva have also made their first-team débuts this season.

It’s possible that another appearance for McGuane may not be too far off, with games against Red Star Belgrade and Norwich to come in October.
