According to the Mirror Arsenal are in negotiations to land £15m rated South American defender Jeison Murillo from Inter Milan. Wenger is set to have the formidable defender’s transfer and paperwork sorted out before the Gunners jet out for pre-season.
Chelsea are also rumored to be interested in the Colombian international but Wenger is set to beat Conte to the chase. Wenger is in need of a central defender as both Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista have been far from convincing that they deserve a starting spot. Calum Chambers who is the only other first team center back hasn’t shown half the qualities that saw Wenger bring him to Arsenal.
Murillo has been identified as the man to pair with Koscielny in the heart of Arsenal’s defence ahead of Calum Chambers Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista. The 24-year-old has made 34 first team appearances for Internazionale last season, managing two goals in the bag and one assist. Murillo also featured in every game during Columbia’s recent Copa America campaign.
Wenger currently has one more year on his contract and is widely tipped not to renew his contract with Arsenal. Wenger would not only want to mount a Premier league title bid, but win the league in his final season in charge of Arsenal.
