Thomas Tuchel has okayed Christopher Nkunku’s loan move to Arsenal on the condition that Paris Saint-Germain sign two new midfielders before the end of the window. Reports emerged on Thursday revealing that Arsenal were deep in talks to sign the 21-year-old, who played under Unai Emery for two seasons during the Spaniard’s time in charge at the French capital. Nkunku has struggled for game time under successor Tuchel, however, with the German coach questioning his attitude and starting him just five times in Ligue 1.

And now L’Equipe report that Tuchel has greenlit a deal for Nkunku to move to north London on a six-month loan, with the Gunners able to buy him permanently for €20million (£17m). However, the deal will have to wait until PSG have reinforced their midfield, with Tuchel already short on options after banishing Adrien Rabiot to the reserves while Marco Verratti picked up a knock against Guingamp.

The French side are deep in talks to sign Leandro Paredes from Zenit, while they also want one of Idrissa Gueye, Renato Sanches or Napoli midfielder Allan. Although Nkunku has failed to impress Tuchel, he was well liked and highly rated by Emery who considered him to have the best attitude of PSG’s crop of young academy players.

The France Under-21 international made 43 appearances in all competitions under Emery over two seasons and always spoke glowingly of the trust that was placed in him by his manager. Arsenal have been looking to bring in a versatile midfielder of Nkunku’s ilk for most of the month, though a move for their first choice target, Barcelona’s Denis Suarez, hit a roadblock, and Emery will be desperate to get a deal for the PSG starlet over the line.
