There are certainly a lot of similarities between Danny Welbeck and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Like the Arsenal and England forward, Everton’s number 29 is an attacker perhaps chosen more for his work rate, his ability to run the channels and hassle defenders rather than his tendency to hit the back of the net.
Calvert-Lewin has scored just six times in 49 Premier League games since arriving at The Toffees from Sheffield United. Though while goals remain hard to come by, the fact he is such a regular in the team shows how much his coaches value his ability to lead the line with exuberance and pace.

Therefore, reports in The Mirror claiming that Everton could make a January move for Welbeck, who is nowhere near extending an Arsenal contract due to expire in the summer, makes for interesting reading.
For a start, why would Everton take a punt on Welbeck when they already have a player who shares virtually the same strengths and weaknesses?
Surely they would be better off trying to develop the problems in Calvert-Lewin’s game rather than sign an injury prone 27-year-old whose progress has plateaued dramatically in the last five years or so.
