Arsenal have reportedly made an improved offer to Jack Wilshere to keep him at the club, despite earlier reports suggesting they wouldn’t budge on their initial proposal.
John Cross of the Mirror reports that Arsenal initially made an offer of £90,000-per-week, plus some pretty large add-ons to bring his estimated total wages above his current deal of £110,000-a-week.
Wilshere clearly didn’t sign that deal, and club and player ended up in a stand-off.
Now, Arsenal have apparently made a new offer of over £100,000-per-week, plus add-ons. It’s still a slight base pay cut, but as long as Wilshere is playing he should earn a fair amount more.
The Daily Mail are also running a very similar story, calling it Arsenal’s ‘final effort’ to resolve the situation.
According to the two reports, Wolves, Everton, AC Milan and Juventus are the four leading contenders to sign Wilshere if he decides to leave.
Wilshere has had a bit of a mixed season for Arsenal. At first he couldn’t get back in the team, but did well with his limited opportunities. Then he stayed fit for a while in the starting line up, but fell out of form. Now he’s recovering from a slight ankle injury.
Overall I think the club’s latest offer is more than fair, and they shouldn’t make another one.
