Lack of offers
Arsenal are set to keep Mesut Ozil – and offer him a huge contract according to John Cross of the Mirror, and the player himself will be happy to sign it.
The rumours of world class clubs coming in and trying to land Ozil are wide of the mark, and it seems that he could well be forced to sign his Arsenal deal, as it’s simply the best offer on the table.
“[Arsenal] want to give him a new contract, without doubt,” Cross tells Sam Matterface, the host of the Mirror Football podcast, “but most people would see that as ‘protecting the asset’ as much as truly wanting him to stay.
“Let’s be honest here: Mesut Ozil hasn’t had a raft of offers like some of the other guys, like Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, have had.
It’s changed. At some point, Mesut Ozil might turn around and say, ‘You know what? I could leave on a free [next summer] and maybe get a really good package as a free transfer… or I could stay here, where I’m being offered £300,000 a week.
“This [the offer to Ozil] is unchartered territory for Arsenal”
Alexis wants out
One player who does want to leave the Gunners is of course Alexis Sanchez, who has made this clear time and time again.
Alexis does have offers on the table – namely from Manchester City – but the north London side are reluctant to see him sold to a rival and would rather keep the player for a year and lose him on a free.
That’s assuming Sanchez will be in the right mindset to play, and willing to give his all for the club who blocked his dream move and reunion with Pep Guardiola.
