Indications show that high-profile French wonderkid Jeff Reine-Adelaide, whose has been well hyped since he moved to Arsenal last summer, is now officially a first-team player.
The striker was spotted wearing the number 20 shirt as the Gunners commenced pre-season training today, which means that the youngster could inherit Mathieu Flamini’s squad number. The former Arsenal midfielder left the London club at the end of last season.
Reine-Adelaide, 18, signed a long term deal with the Gunners from French side Lens along with midfielder Yassin Fortune, and introduced himself to Arsenal crowd at the Emirates Cup against Wolfsburg last summer.
Reine-Adelaide also featured in two of Arsenal’s FA Cup games last season.
The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is a big fan of the versatile Reine-Adelaide’s ability to play on either flank or in the number 10 role. His versatility was probably a big factor in his promotion to the first team. He’s also a regular in France’s Under-18 team.
He will have to battle other young stars like the likes of Alex Iwobi and Serge Gnabry vying for a place in Arsenal’s attack, who are already showing maturity, despite Gnabry’s recent injury concerns. Notwithstanding, with other youngsters such as Dan Crowley being loaned out, Reine-Adelaide has been presented with a great chance.
