Watford have reportedly agreed a fee for Kieran Gibbs, and are negotiating personal terms ahead of a transfer.
After interest seemed to have died down from the reports we brought you earlier in the summer between Watford and Gibbs, the Standard now claims that this interest has been ‘reignited’, with talks ongoing.
ESPN are also reporting on the links between Watford and the player, and they claim that a fee has been agreed between Arsenal and Watford, but that personal terms are still yet to be finalised.
The Standard claims that Arsenal were willing to lower their valuation to help Gibbs secure a move, and that Gibbs wants to remain in England.
If a fee really has been agreed, then I doubt there is much standing in the way of a move for Kieran.
Although there will always be stories about players wanting more money, Gibbs has only made 26 league appearances in the last two years, many from the bench, and it’s hard to imagine he’s happy for that to continue.
Now aged 27, and turning 28 next month, Gibbs’ best/only chance of playing in a World Cup is probably next year. But having not appeared for the national team since 2015, he doesn’t have much time to force his way back into Gareth Southgate’s thinking.
With deadline day next Thursday, there’s now less than a week to get everything finalised.
