The Gunner’s bid for Gabriel Barbosa has now been taken seriously by the Brazil club. According to Radio Bandeirantes, everything is done between Santos and ‘a big English club’. ESPN says the player was excited with an offer from the Gunners,
The English Premier League team are triggering Gabigol’s €18m release clause, which doesn’t give the Brazilian club any chance of keeping the player, and the final decision is in the hands of the player now, according to Elia Junior.
According to report, Gabigol officially has a €50m ( £41.3m ) release clause, but the player’s agent Wagner Ribeiro recently said suitors have the option of buying him for €18m.
If report from the stable of ESPN is anything to go by, Radio Bandeirantes aren’t quite so much. Elia Junior often breaks transfer news that doesn’t happen and hasn’t got the best reputation among fans on social media.
ESPN Brasil is a reliable source, so my take is that the Gunners may have made a bid, but things aren’t sealed yet.
In his words yesterday, Wagner Ribeiro told Radio Globo: “A 25 million bid for Gabriel was already given to the president and he turned it down. The athlete (Gabriel) already said he’s too young and wishes to stay at least for one more year. So, I believe he’s not leaving.”
With Ribeiro contradicting himself about the bid and the clause, it’s hard to know if his own claims about Gabriel’s price are true.
Ribeiro is the most successful agent in Brazil, and is normally very calm with transfer situations, and doesn’t seem to be in a hurry to sell the player now.
