The door is still open for Arsenal to secure the signing of a longtime transfer target according to a new report.
Arsenal missed out on several players last summer as the likes of Jamie Vardy, Gonzalo Higuain and Riyad Mahrez turned down a move to the Emirates stadium.
However, one player who was not against a transfer to north London was Olympique Lyonnais striker Alexandre Lacazette.
The 25-year-old was deemed to be on the brink of a Premier League switch despite the fact that Lyon had rejected an initial offer from Arsenal.
And according to Sport Witness via Spanish outlet Marca, Arsenal are still the front-runners to finally land the French striker even though they now face competition from Atletico Madrid.
The report claims that the La Liga side has expressed its interest in Lacazette but the good news for the Gunners is that Lyon are now willing to accept an offer worth $37.3 million (€35 million) for their star man.
Whether Arsenal will resume their pursuit of the goalscorer remains unclear, especially with the future of Arsene Wenger still not sorted out.
However, there is no doubt that Danny Welbeck’s frequent injury problems and the potential exit of Alexis Sanchez could force the club into another search for a new striker.
