According to A Bola via Sport Review, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is reportedly interested in signing Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani as the French man head to Portugal in search of a striker to strengthen the squad this summer.
Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign a striker this summer transfer window and recently made a bid for Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy which was unsuccessful and Wenger has now decided to turn his attention elsewhere, with Portugal the most likely destination.
The striker was in good form for the Portuguese based club throughout last season and his displays for Lisbon hasn’t gone unnoticed as the Arsenal boss is said to be very impressed.
Wenger is now planning to sign Slimani who has a £24m release clause in his current deal according to the report.
Portuguese club Sporting Lisbon does not want the player to leave the club but Lisbon would be powerless to stop the player from moving should Arsenal step up their interest. Lisbon are not prepared to lose Slimani for a fee less than his release clause and Gunners boss is expected to trigger the release clause if he wants to sign the Algerian forward.
Premier League rivals Tottenham and Leicester City have been linked with Slimani as Leicester eyed the African man as a replacement for English international striker Jamie Vardy who eventually snubbed a move to North London.
The youngster scored 31 goals in 46 games for Lisbon last season, an impressive stats for Arsenal who hasn’t have such a lethal striker since Van Persie left the club.
